Tahiti has been synonymous with big game fishing the world over since the sports earliest days. However, it is only the society group that has claimed famed for the presence of large blue marlin. Some of the biggest Blue marlin caught have been landed either by local hand liners or rod and reel in Tahitian waters. Famous author Zane Grey also visited and wrote about the tropical paradise. In fact, Zane Grey caught the blue marlin world record on 80lb line, fishing out from Tahiti. A fish of 1040lbs. Other large fish include Tahiti's most famous fish caught in Raiatea. The fish was caught by a local hand liner and weighed in at 1560lbs. There is a photo in the Raiatea marketplace of this fish being weighed. Other significant catches include blue marlin of 1100lbs and 1307lbs as well as numerous over 1000lbs.
We dont have to travel far beyond the surrounding reef to have the chance to tangle with one of these giants! Fishing Moorea's south side offer calm waters and constant current which brings in the bait fish and the marlin are never too far away.
Long range trips to the outer Islands such as the Australes, Marquises and Tuamotu's are also available and never disappoint!

739kg Blue Marlin Caught in Tahiti.
We fish year round here in MOOREA and the action never stops on our charter boats! However, we do like certain seasonal differences in the year. November to march in MOOREA and Society Islands is the warmer and calmer months with good marlin action, multiple bites up to 5 per day can be experienced on small to medium sized marlin (150lbs to 400lbs). The Big marlin are never far away as 2021 has proved with an 1106lber caught in Feb as well as numerous fish close to 700lbs. Yellow fin tuna also frequent the area in schools more so this time of year. The water cools May through to October which usually means a more consistent big fish bite. Mahi Mahi and Wahoo also show up in more abundance.

Japanese commercial long line records indicate they spent a lot of time fishing the waters around the Marquises, they were not wrong! The Marquises Islands sit right in the middle of the equatorial current and because of this has a constant flow of current and supply of fish! December through to May is the hot and calm months with the Tuna migration through the area. Yellowfin tuna to 200lbs can be encountered with giant marlin never too far away. June through to September will see the trade wind season begin and the air freshen up a little. We have caught big marlin all year and July is a great month. The Blue Marlin World Cup will be caught here one year!

The Gambier's are situated at the bottom of the Tuamotus archipelago. The Big marlin turn up just in time for Christmas down this way and stay through March. April has seen its fair share of big fish, but the water starts to cool further and in our experience the big girls make a move. It would appear only a few people know about the potential of this place!
Raivavae in the Austral's are almost due south of tahiti and share a similar season to that of the Gambier. The Austral's have plenty of potential with big marlin, GT's, Wahoo and Dog tooth tuna.
